Introduction to MWUN

The Mekong Wetland University Network

The Mekong Wetland University Network (MWUN), dedicated to wetland research and training in the Mekong region, was established in 2002. Its first network meeting was held at the University of Science in Ho Chi Minh City on November 14, 2002, followed by the first executive meeting in February 2003 at Mahidol University, Thailand, where the presidents of eight founding universities signed the initial Memorandum of Understanding. Since then, MWUN has actively connected hundreds of wetland professionals across the Mekong region through its research and training activities. By 2023, the network had expanded to include 26 member universities from seven countries including Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. In the same year, MWUN proudly celebrated its 20th anniversary of collaboration.
